Nanuli is a bedtime story app. A parent records their own voice onto a ready-made animated story; a child plays it back later.
No account, no sign-up, no personal data. Two things here are different from each other, so we spell them out separately.
Your recordings and your child's name never leave the device. We have no server that could hold them and no feature that uploads them.
Anonymous usage counts do leave the device, unless you switch them off. They say how far people get in the app. They say nothing about who you are and nothing about what you record.
All of it lives in the app's own folder on your iPhone or iPad. Deleting the app deletes it. "Delete all recordings" in Settings deletes the recordings for good — we have no copy to restore them from.
If you use iCloud Backup, Apple backs up the app's folder along with the rest of your device. That copy is held by Apple under Apple's terms, not by us, and we cannot read it.
The app asks for microphone access the first time you start a recording. The audio is written to a file on your device and is never uploaded, streamed, or analysed. No speech recognition, no voice cloning, no AI processing of your voice.
Where the app offers a storyteller to read the grown-up's parts, that voice comes ready-made inside the app; a newer version of it may download from nanuli.app (see Story downloads below). It was generated by AI from the story text before the app reached you, and it is the same for everyone whose iPhone has the same language and region. It is not made from your voice, and nothing you record is used to make it.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, card, or address. The app asks Apple whether a subscription is active and gets back yes or no. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
The app shows no ads and contains no advertising code, no crash reporting, and no third-party analytics service. The counts below are our own and go to our own address.
The app sends anonymous counts of what happens in it: opening the app, the first screens, reminders, recording, the book, playing and sharing stories, Settings and the subscription screen. When you type or change your child's name, only the fact that you did is counted.
Each count carries a random number this device made up when you installed the app, the app version, iPhone or iPad, the app language and sometimes a short label of our own words and numbers, such as the story, the scene, the screen, the reminder time you picked or why something did not work out. A count never holds your recordings, anything you typed or said, your child's name, or where you sent a story. Our server also keeps the country the request came from (not the address) and, for a subscription, the plan. No advertising identifier, no device identifier, no stored IP address, no profile, no tracking across other apps or websites.
Why we count: to see where parents get stuck before their first story.
To turn it off: Settings, then "Usage stats". Anything not yet sent is deleted the moment you do.
We advertise Nanuli in the App Store and on Facebook and Instagram. If you install the app after tapping one of those ads, Apple itself may tell that ad network, a day or more later and without saying who you are, that one install came from that ad. The app sends nothing for this: once, at first launch, it tells Apple on the device that it has been opened. There is no advertising identifier, no tracking prompt and no ad-network code in the app, and the network learns nothing about you, your child or your recordings.
The free story, The Little Lantern, comes inside the app. Other stories, their pictures and the storyteller's voice download from nanuli.app when the app needs them, and after that they stay on your device and play without a connection. Now and then the app also asks nanuli.app for the current list of stories.
These requests ask for story text, pictures and the storyteller's voice, and nothing else. They carry no install number, no name, no recording, and nothing that identifies you or your device, and our server stores no IP addresses. With usage statistics on, the app counts whether a story downloaded or why it did not, as described above. Downloaded stories are not included in your iCloud Backup, because the app can download them again.
The app is used by children, but it is bought and set up by an adult. It collects no personal data from anyone, sends nothing but the anonymous counts above, and contains no ads, no links out except to Apple's subscription page and to these documents, and no way for a child to contact anyone.
